Your studies will focus on the criminal justice system, criminal laws, and criminals. You may also want to take sociology and psychology courses.

Before you graduate from your undergraduate studies, apply for law school. Make sure your grades are above average and you successfully pass the law school admission tests. Go after a law school that is pretty reputable too. It’s a good idea to attend a law school that will be located in the jurisdiction you work so you will be familiar with that jurisdiction’s criminal laws. Once you’ve been accepted to law school, make sure you keep your grades up. You want above average grades and an exceptional intern-ship opportunity to prove yourself.

Getting an internship will provide you with the experience necessary. Most internships take place at criminal attorney law offices, the public defender’s office, or with a government or social agency. Be sure to thoroughly prepare yourself for the Bar Exam. It is a very difficult exam that many law students failt to pass the first time around. However, most pass it the second time around. Once you’ve passed the Bar exam and have become licensed, you can practice law. Most criminal attorneys work for themselves or with a group of others in a law firm.
